Busta Rhymes Speaks on dead body guard.

"Our condolences and prayers go out to his family..."

That seems familiar. Remember Busta's bodyguard, Israel Ramirez, who was shot back in '06?
Busta said,"...my condolences to the Ramirez family during this time..."

Tiger Wood's caddy earns 1 million a year carrying clubs & bullying the press. How much could Busta pay for the next fellow to watch his back (given, only one of the bodyguards were OTJ)?

I suspect he'll pay relative little since the help wanted ad will probably look this way:
Position: Bodyguard.
Requirements: Stupid-Idiot
Compensation: Condolences.
Call: 1-800-GET-DEAD

Lil Wayne, "Fuck Mixtape DJs!" as he takes a shit on the mix tape industry/game. DJ Doo Wop takes a shit back on him.

Some say it was syrup. Some say it was "weed x20" that made him flip out. It was most probably coke & a big ego. That underground game takes some responsibility for Wayne's success via Cash Money's beginnings & will probably contribute to his ultimate demise. It can happen (see:Britney Spears).

There's always a balance between the anger and humor a stupid person's behavior makes possible. Surely, most everyone has watched the video with the girl verbally declaring war on an old lady.

Byron Crawford's blog, having a seemingly endless supply of humor-laced commentary, didn't fail to keep the balance for me by sharing this video:

Al Nuke, Al Wissam, & now Al Profit. About Profit's new movie profiling Detroit:

Jay Williams, 29, a West Bloomfield resident who grew up in Detroit, bought the film shortly after it was released. " 'Murder City' is a great depiction of Detroit without sugarcoating it. It's Detroit raw and uncut, that's actually how Detroit really is," he says. "I come from the late '80s dope era, and because I used to be in the streets, I can relate to it a lot. It's almost to the point to where it's sad, but that's life, and that's unfortunate, and this is place where a lot of us grow up."

What is a CD peddler? From my experience, it can be anyone who makes rhymes in order to sell CDs. Sincere (and good) artists make music because the song won't stay inside them. And, while that's all super idealistic, it's my story & I'm sticking to it. From my experience, CD peddlers saturate the underground & local markets with so much bullshit rap music.
A rapper (and I'm being liberal with the term here) said, "...my ass fat, I get it from my moma, niggas want to eat it like Jeffrey Dahmer...".

Here are the rules for female cd peddlers:

  • No more shiny tops
  • No more oversized sunglasses
  • No more mentioning fashion designers whose product you don't own
I can't go on.

Last night I watched busta rhyme & linkin park's video on youtube. A few things occurred to me:

  • Busta's first four lines are wack as hell
  • Mike Shinoda's rhymes are better than Busta's (???!!!???)
  • Busta look's like Linkin Park's hype man
Even though this is a bad ass track, I wish Busta would stick to rapping those indiscernible speed-hype lyrics.

A beat Kanye West made for J-Dilla, but never heard himself (whatever that means) is creating such a brouhaha today. I think it's a banging beat, but certainly not his best. Banging, all the same. It's not being received with mixed reviews at all, most people like it. However, one commenter on XXLmag.com (L.Gunslinger, 6th comment) has the following to say:

J-Dilla was heavily over-rated. He had a few good beats, but most of his beats were just rushed 2 bear loops...That is why Dilla wasn’t rich when he died.
The track, which I remind you is banging, and a good starting point for the tracks history is available for listening here.

Secondary to the track's broululz, discussions about J-Dilla's competency in general are taking place here & here.

-The Biggest G

I'm not feeling anything about it, except the (sorta) chopped "I'm the Biggest G..." part in the hook. They'll get the benefit of doubt from me though, since it sounds like the ole for-radio-first-track-release routine.

I really don't care enough to look into it further, but, commenters on Hip HopDX somewhat agree with me, though in more harsh tones.

I thought 'Bombs Over Baghdad' got dropped by some ATLiens, but the following video wasn't dropped by Outcast. I'll presume it's a Philly (pre-written) freestyle battle (open to correction about the city, but not about the 'pre-written' part). As noted in the comments at the youtube channel, these are hardly freestyles. People think acapella rhymes are freestyles. C'mon...
Still, one of these fellas got killed. Bad.

The kid Reed Dollaz kept up with gun antics. Here's a pun for you--I misread him. I thought, 'oh boy, this kid is gonna get beat up'. After all, look, or 'remember' what happens when you brag about your guns in a (real?) freestyle?

Still, Reed Dollaz, something like a big deal.

Speaking on Eminem:

Britain's Sun tabloid says Detroit rap star Eminem has confirmed his appearance at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party in London's Hyde Park on June 27." It turns out he was only contacted about the event.

An acquaintance of mine, from years ago in the OMFG!!! EPMD IS THE SHIT!!! era often would promote local events, and though he was successful, his promos often included SPECIAL *INVITED* GUESTS: sO & sO! Well, you can invite God to the show, you know, but he might not come.

Same article reports Eminem & Will Smith could release material at the same time. Maybe we'll get some Kanye/50 cent vibe going. Well, not quite. It's less like Kanye/50 cent & more like Eminem/someone who makes blockbuster-ass movies, who doesn't make good records anymore, who will probably do better release his material around the time Artest does.

Some thoughts out of Topeka about Eminem & discussion: "What are your Top 5 rappers"?
The Question:

"Anyway, since we're in Detroit, I decided to ask some KU players about Eminem, the Detroit rapper who hasn't generated a good album since 2003's "The Eminem Show."
One of the answers:
"Yeah, but I think he fell off a lot,"...
Despite the 'Em fell off' sentiment (an understandable one)Eminem does show up on everybody's Top 5 list of greatest rappers. At least on that point Isa & I agree with them.

A Culture Without a Blog

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Welcome to the Detroit Rap Blog. The concept is simple, although it's taken me a while to get around to making it manifest.

My recent reinterest in Detroit area rap has uncovered a rich & diverse Hip Hop culture within Detroit & its surrounding area. I want to talk about it, learn it, & share it with other people. This web site will serve as my mouth piece on the web, in the same spirit as www.hiphopmusic.com, www.hiphop-blogs.com, & other sites whose interests are their area or the general Hip Hop culture. I can only look forward to being a well-read & in touch with Hip Hop as the authors of these two sites.

I'll also try to highlight my tastes in Detroit rap music by exposing my readership to audio clips shared with me by these generous artists. There's a growing online community representing Detroit Hip Hop & rap music. It's not my intent to start another one or take from that. My intent is to direct people to that community. I hope I will be able to represent the Detroit rap music culture in a way to interest newcomers & to the apprciation of those putting in the real work for the culture.

And, I will ALWAYS write in a conversational style & ALWAYS capitalize the words Hip Hop.
